Emily McMahon's educational e-portfolio
Hello, everyone! My name is Emily McMahon. I'm from Massachusetts and I'm a transfer sophomore, so this is my second semester here at Franciscan. I'm actually an Education major (Special Ed dual licensure) as of yesterday (the 13th). Last semester, I was a Communication Arts major, but it was never a field I had a passion for and the major just didn't sit well with me all throughout last semester. Over Christmas break, I was able to return to a volunteer position I'd had for well over 5 years at a therapeutic riding center near my house at home. It's literally one of my favorite places on earth, and before I'd transferred to Franciscan, I would spend hours every week helping out there, teaching disabled children how to ride horses or participating in their therapy sessions. It's something I'm very passionate about, and when I went back after such a long time away over Christmas break, I realized that working with these people was what I wanted to do. So , and here I am now!
As a former Communication Arts major and as an amateur digital artist, I am fairly comfortable with technology, and I enjoy fiddling with computers/computer programs and figuring things out. I went through the motions of creating a blog at one point, but after I created the website and the graphics for it, I "forgot" to follow up with the actual blog posting part of it. It wasn't fun after I'd figured everything out, lol! I'm not exactly sure what a digital story is, but I have about 46,000 words in a book that I'm writing on Microsoft Word. I've been working on it for 3 years, and I hope that one day soon I'll finish it. Also, during my freshman year of college I took two online courses, so I'm familiar with that, as well. I've done many digital art projects, and last semester I was an intern for CatholicMom.com. I was able to do several interesting digital art/writing projects with that internship. I'm enthusiastic about the concept of integrating technology into the classroom because technology is a huge part of our world today, and it can be such a useful tool if it is understood and implemented correctly.
